Belonging to the Osphronemidae family, Bettas originate from Southeast Asia, where they inhabit rice paddies, shallow streams, and slow-moving waters. Water Requirements
Bettas thrive in stable, clean water with the following parameters:
Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm (undetectable)
Nitrate: Below 20 ppm
A gentle filter is recommended to maintain water quality, and a heater is essential to keep the temperature consistent. Bettas prefer calm water, so strong currents should be avoided. Regular water changes (20–30% weekly) help maintain a healthy environment.
Introducing Bettas to Your Tank
Introducing a Betta to a new tank requires care to minimise stress:
